Prenatal & Postpartum Counseling

Our foundation is rooted in a faithful Catholic Christian perspective. Our dedicated team, guided by unwavering principles and professional ethics, is committed to providing psychotherapy that respects and integrates the unique perspectives and values of each individual. While we specialize in understanding the Catholic Christian ethos, our approach extends to individuals from non-Catholic Christian churches, as well as those from various other faiths or none at all.

Postpartum Depression

Having a child can be a wonderful experience, and with it comes all sorts of emotions: joy, happiness and satisfaction, but also stress, anxiety and even depression. If you are experiencing anxiety, crying for no apparent reason, have difficulty sleeping, or any of the symptoms listed below, odds are you are experiencing postpartum depression.

We at Fiat Integrative Health are here and ready to help mothers struggling with postpartum depression. Our seasoned team of counselors in Franklin, TN are ready to help you find peace and wellbeing for yourself and your family.

Postpartum depression symptoms can include:

  • Depressed mood or severe mood swings
  • Crying too much
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby
  • Withdrawing from family and friends
  • Loss of appetite or eating much more than usual
  • Inability to sleep, called insomnia, or sleeping too much
  • Overwhelming tiredness or loss of energy
  • Less interest and pleasure in activities you used to enjoy
  • Intense irritability and anger
  • Fear that you’re not a good mother
  • Hopelessness
  • Feelings of worthlessness, shame, guilt or inadequacy
  • Reduced ability to think clearly, concentrate or make decisions
  • Restlessness
  • Severe anxiety and panic attacks
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby
  • Recurring thoughts of death or suicide

Postpartum depression is common—more common than people like to admit. In no way is it the mother’s fault. The fact is that childbirth can bring about massive hormonal changes in the mother that affect the mother’s mood and wellbeing. See, for example, these statistics:

  • Approximately 1 in 10 women will experience postpartum depression after giving birth, with some studies reporting 1 in 7 women.
  • Postpartum depression generally lasts 3 to 6 months. However, this varies based on several factors.
  • It is estimated that nearly 50% of mothers with postpartum depression are not diagnosed by a health professional.

If you are feeling these symptoms, it is important to call your primary caregiver.

Our mental health counselors serve Franklin, TN and the wider Nashville area. Our counselors are also available for online therapy.
